The F Word

Most girls (and guys) don't realize how much the "F Word" hurts. No, not that F Word, I mean the word Fat. Ever heard the phrase "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt  me"? Well that phrase is a lie. Can any girl honestly say that words have never hurt her? I doubt it. The phrase, "I'll take a punch in the face, but I can't take a stab in the heart," is more along the lines of reality. You can dodge a bullet, not a word. Face it, words hurt. I know you would be hurt if somebody called you fat. So why would you call someone else that. Calling someone fat may not seem like a big deal, but believe it or not those silly word leave a lasting impression. Those supposed silly worse can lead to extreme dieting, anorexia, low self-esteem, and even cutting. After all, you can't become anorexic over a black eye. I guess the main point of this little post is to remind all you guys and girls out there that calling someone fat hurts way more than any punches ever can. So, just think twice before calling anyone fat.

  2. Perfume- Fragrances are a never-go-wrong gift for any girl. Whether it is Marc Jacobs or Bath and Body Works, a girls should have at least one fragrance.
  3. Great Books- Find what type of books inspire you to read? Find those and read! It's great for downtime.
  4. A dress- No not a sundress or a casual dress, but a dress to be worn for special occasions. However I wouldn't want to give this as a present because if it is too big than she will think you think of her as bigger than she is and if it is too small she might be upset that she's to big for it.
  5. A Candle- They are great for relieving stress and they just bring a great sent into any room.

  8. A Wallet- I personally like wristlets because they are a cute, compact way to carry money, I.D. and a phone. A clutch is great for a night on the town.
  9. Personalized Stationary- Actually even if it's not personalized, a girl loves her stationary. A signature stationary says who the note or letter came from. Someone can tell it's from you without having to read the signature.
  10. An Apron- A girls gotta have her cooking apron, especially if she lives in the south. Even if you don't "cook", almost everyone makes the occasional cookie.

DIY: Doily Paper Lamp

Okay this one is a doily lamp. Can you believe the things people come up with? It would be perfect for a wedding or even as  a cute accessory in a room. Even though the pictures explain it pretty well, I'll break it down. What you will need is:
  • Doilies (duh)
  • A balloon
  • Clear Glue
  • A brush to brush on the glue
  • Twine or some kind of thick string.
  • Newspaper
  • A light bulb and the system to make it light up
Blow up the balloon and tie it off. Than mix the glue. You will than pan the glue on with the brush. Paint it one one side of the doily on top of the newspaper. The newspaper protects your nice table or floor from getting all messed up with glue and doilies. :) Put the doily on the balloon with the glue side on the balloon so it sticks.  Do this till it the balloon is covered. Than take the twin or thick string and tie it to the part of the balloon that you tied off. Hang it high and wait a couple hours or overnight for it to dry completely. When it is for sure dry, pop the balloon and cut a small hole in the top. Use that hole to carefully take the balloon out and put in the light. Make sure it stays in and doesn't fall out before you hang it up. If you want you can simply not put in a light and it will still be really cool. Best of luck! If you try it out, comment below and say it it works,

When Life Gives You Lemons...

What do you do when life gives you lemons? Some say to make lemonade and others to squirt it in your enamy's eyes. Either way is fine and dandy. The important thing to remember is that if something bad happens in your life than pick up the peices and move on. Make something great out of something bad. Anyone can do it. The thing you have to remember is the always keep trying and eventually great things will happen. Never stop believing  and never stop trying.

Bullies

Whether it is that mean girl on the play ground or a girl calling you fat or ugly, it hurt when we are bullied. The definition of a bully is someone who intentionally and repetitively hurts someone weaker than him. Now, I don't think there are any girls at your school demanding for your lunch money or waiting for you behind the schoolyard but I am almost certain there are girls who talk behind your back or intimidate you. Sometimes they don't even know they are being mean. Your friends that really do care about you could be bothering you and they thought they were just joking. In that case, tell them. If they are true friends they will stop. In other cases, some girls intentionally talk about you so you know all the bad things they say. The number one reason girls do that is because they feel bad about themselves, so they pick on others to make them feel better. If something they said hurts your feelings and you and the ones you care about know it's not true, than why fret? I mean does their input really matter? of course not. I know it seems hard but, ignore it. If it makes them feel like the better person, hey that's their problem. Just remember, when that girl at school hurts you, don't fight back, It can only make things worse. And as my good friend once told me, you objective in life shouldn't be seeing who is most popular. It's all about getting into those pearly gates and the end of the road, right?

4 Types of Hairstyles

This post focuses of four classic types of fabulous hairstyles. If you are looking to chand up your look or just try something new, look no further! Your prayers have been answered.

Wavy-This hair style features soft, bouncy waves all over. Create this hairstyle by first applying a curl enhancing cream or gel and a heat protectant to damp hair. Blow dry the hair using a diffuser attachment and just your fingers to shape and position the hair. Once the hair is completely dry, you can add all over waves using a medium barrel curling iron. Roll up small sections of hair in the curling iron and hold in a vertical position for about 20-30 seconds, or until the hair in the curling iron feels hot to the touch.
Layers- Layers are a great addition to any haircut. They help to add movement to a style, reduce bulkiness and can sometimes make styling easier. If you have extra frizzy or thick hair, you will want to go with very long layers as short layers do not work well with frizzy hair. A very popular trend today is to get a short to medium length haircut with very long layers added throughout. The short shag hairstyle, similar to Meg Ryan’s in Harry met Sally, is making a comeback this year. It has that heavy layered- looks like you grabbed the scissors and started cutting your hair every which way-look that can be worn in a short or medium length.
Bangs – Hair bangs, like layers, are a great addition to any haircut. The most popular type is the side-swept bang. These bangs are longer, past the eyebrow, and are styled swept off to one side of the face for a very flattering look. There is also the full bang, short and choppy bang and the fringe bangs. Fringe bangs are just a hint of bang and are the best type of bang to start with if you have never had bangs before. Create the piecey bangs look quickly by applying a small amount of pomade to the ends of the hair.
Bobs – The bob is still a very popular style. Although bob trendsetters Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes no longer wear bob hairstyles, this type of cut is still popular because of its flattering appearance and easy style-ability. There are many different versions of the bob, including the inverted bob, short, medium and long length bobs. Adding highlights or lowlights to the bob haircut can create a more dimensional look.

When a Friend Moves

Whether it's her parent's separation, college or a new job offer for her parents, a friend moving away is really tough. We know the best thing to do is to be happy for them, but it's tough when someone you care about and have known for a while leaves.  The fact is, they were in your life and now that they aren't you feel sad. But, there are ways to cope with it rather than throwing a fit in front of your friend. Cause you know if that happens than they will start to cry too. And that is the last thing any of us want.
One great thing that you can do to let her remember you is to make a card and get all of  y'all's friends to sign it. It's a great thing for her to treasure forever.
Another thing you can do is make a binder color for her. You know that pocket on the outside of a regular school binder. Make her a cute cover so that every time she goes to get her binder for school or work she will remember all the good times and insiders you had together. If you wanted to step it up a notch, you could make a binder full of photos and fun things you guys did together. And than put the binder cover on it. I guarantee she'll love it and never forget all your great memories.
A final thing that you could do is write a letter. A letter saying how great of a friend she is and reminding her of the great times you had together, of when y'all met and how much you'll miss her. It won't will leave her dry eyed as long as it's truly sentimental. Put you heart into it and she will love it. And don't forget to keep in touch by emails, texting, facebook, and by writing. The possibilities are endless.
When you lose a friend it is okay to move on. Even if it is your best friend, life moves on. I'm not saying forget about her, I am saying to expand your horizons. You will make new friends if you keep an open mind.

DIY: Muffin Tray Makeup Holder

I ran across this cute idea for storing your makeup and I just had to share it with you guys. The idea is that you have a muffin tray and you put in little plastic cups the side of the holes and it can hold your makeup. The great thing about it is that regardless if you have a large makeup collection or a small collection it works. If you have a smaller one, just get a smaller muffin pan and cups. If you have a larger collection than I recommend getting two muffin pans and lining them beside each other. This idea even works for holding other things. The possibilities are endless. This idea is so cute I might hae to try it out for myself!

5 Ideas and Tips for Wearing Hair Accessories

Once associated with proms and pageants, embellished barrettes and headbands are finally getting 'big girl' attention.
1. Wear a headband with a messy bun for a fully grownup look or scooch up your bangs in a drastic way.
2. Hold up a ponytail  with a big barrette. It is classier and looks more elegant then a regular elastic. Tease the underside of the hair to assure a tight hold.
3. Braid a satin ribbon into your hair. it can look really classy. Be sure it isn't a stiff one. The stiffer ones look cheap, no matter how they are styled.
4. If your hair is to glossy to hold the barrette than a spray of dry shampoo can give your hair a clean grip.
5. Wear an assortment of colorful bobby pins in your hair. They catch the attention without even trying. Use one to pull back your bangs.

DIY: Glitter Nail Polish

So when you go to the store, a bottle of glitter nail polish can be pretty expensive depending on what brand of nail polish you get. However you can make your own cute glitter nail polish or if you just want to make a current nail polish a little extra glittery.

Okay, so what you will need for this cute DIY experiment is:
  • A piece of paper (to be used as a funnel )
  • A bottle of glitter of your choosing
  • A nail polish
  • A shoe box you don't mind getting a bit glittery

So what you have to do is as follows:
  1. Figure out how glitter-dense you want your polish and set aside that amount of glitter in a small tube or vial.
  2. Fold your paper into a funnel, with the funnel emptying into the nail polish that you will be using.
  3. Slowly pour the glitter into the funnel so that it goes into your polish. I'd recommend not pouring it all at once so that you don't accidentally overdo it off the bat. You can always add more after steps 4 and 5.
  4. Shake up the bottle until it's all mixed up
  5. Try your polish out and see what it looks like. Repeat steps 3-5 if you need more glitter.

The final product should rival any glitter polish that you could buy at the store. Let me know how it turns out if you give this a try!

Get Your House Party Ready

When you throw a party whatever it is for, every girl wants her house to be ready. Usually this means getting it primped about one week before the party. You know you have to clean it but there are some often forgotten. Here's your To-Do list before your next dinner party.

1. Clean House. Obviously, you should vacuum, dust and tidy up. Your home should also smell fantastic. Just a quick hint, kitty litter does not smell good. So spritz your upholstery with linen spray.
2. Hide the personal items. People do snoop. Put away anything that doesn't need to be found, girls. This step is especially important if your party is on the larger side. You can keep your eyes on 6-10 people but when the numbers get up there ,you can't keep every one in one room and people will wander off into your personal belongings.
3. Focus on the bathroom. Replace your regular towels with pretty cotton ones. i find that people don't want to mess up the pretty towels first. Also make sure you get the good toilet paper. I know it sounds crazy, but think about it. Some people don't like using 1-ply.
4. Lighten up. Most dinner parties can be dark and mysterious. That's great if that is what you are going for, but if not feel free to open the curtains or turning up the lights a little. If it is a mysterious party, candles and floor lamps with 24-watt incandescent bulbs work great
5. Smell the flowers. If you have a big crystal vase for the dinning room, grab an armful of peonies. And consider putting a sing poppy in a bud vase and a cluster of hyacinths in the bathroom.
